Botnet (malware) detection for home users

Botnet Remediation: Tools and Techniques was somewhat focused on a corporate environment. Here are some tips and tools for the home users:

• Patch your systems regularly
• Install an anti-virus scanner or at least do an online scan from time to time

• Kaspersky Free Online Scan
• Panda Activescan
• Trend Micro Housecall

• Install and run Hitman Pro. Hitman Pro is a free program. It combines several anti-spyware, anti-virus programs and has some own components to combat spyware. Some examples of the tools it runs for you:

• Spybot: Search and Destroy
• Lavasoft Ad-Aware
• Webroot Spy Sweeper
• PC Tools Spyware Doctor
• TrendMicro CWshredder

Only one of the above, seldom finds all malware. That's what I like about Hitman pro. It runs a bunch of tools and makes sure that you're safe for 99.9999%.
Of course, you can use these in a corporate environment too if your company policy allows this. Check for proper licenses, because I don't know if these tools aren't free for personal use only.
