Beware your metadata

Remember the Harry Potter Pirate releasing pictures of the book? The hunt is still on. With the Exchangeable Image File Format (Exif) data, it has been already revealed that the camera used was a Canon Rebel 350. Because the model is three years old, the chances it has been serviced, are real. So the name of the owner would be known. Maybe it's not that easy but with all things becoming digital, it's becoming more and more easy to track people in their day to day lives. For better or for worse.
From a point of view of privacy, it would not be good but many things can be used both for good and evil. Funny to know is that law enforcement agencies tried to convince Adobe to include the serial number into pictures so they could be tracked. Luckily they refused. So beware your metadata.

Just a little extra info ... even complete dummies can remove exif-data once they know how ... use almost any photo-editing program and just do a "save for web". That removes all exif-details from the file. No need to open up an exif-editor and start removing or altering details.
Obviously best to test before you start posting 'naughty' things on the net :-)
