Netgear has a WGR614L wireless router specifically targeting open source firmware hackers. It can use Tomato, DD-WRT, and soon OpenWRT. At the core of this router is a 240MHz MIPS processor with 16MB of flash and 4MB of RAM.
I still have a WRT54G version 2 at home which runs Linux and thus supports DD-WRT and OpenWRT. After a few hardware revisions, they opted to dump Linux in favor of VxWorks. This lowered the specs and it couldn't run Linux anymore. Luckily they released a WRT54GL for enthusiasts. Now Netgear seems to be providing us with an alternative and they've set up a community specifically for this router. Could become interesting.
