90% of Dutch people throw away confidential papers

When talking about user awareness, it's important to understand and learn cultural differences. The post from last week (Removable media security at work in Japan) was interesting to see some of the data from other countries. In that regard, you should have a look at this Shmoocon presentation: Hacking the Samurai Spirit from Isaac Mathis.

Now here is some interesting information from the Dutch. It appears that the Dutch are not afraid of identity theft. A research done by the identity theft prevention week shows that almost all Dutch people know the principle of identity theft, but the majority doesn't believe to be at risk. It appears that only 47% of the Dutch are afraid of being a victim.

If it is about paper information, 9 out of 10 people surveyed throw away documents that contain sensitive information like letters from banks, papers with pincodes etc... without making it unreadable like shredding the documents. (Source: Security.nl)
